What actually matters when you choose
1. Total system vs bare screen
The biggest hidden cost in this category. A bare retractable impact screen still needs side protection (mishits happen), and buying side barriers separately adds $300 to $800 and a second install. The ProScreen 180's fold-out design and the Fairway series' included dual 8 ft side screens are complete systems out of the box; the Stealth and METechs are screens only.
2. Ceiling height and mounting
Every retractable system mounts to ceiling joists or a wall header. Measure twice: you need the housing depth (typically 6 to 10 inches) plus your ball-flight clearance. 3. Impact rating and layers
Look for a stated ply count and a real-ball rating. A 3-ply impact screen at proper tension handles driver speeds and doubles as a crisp projection surface. Single-layer "projector screen" material is not an impact screen, which is the risk at the very cheap end of the market.
4. Motor quality and control
All the serious options are motorized now. Differences show up in the remote (RF works through walls, IR does not), stop-position memory, and how the screen hangs after 500 cycles.
5. Warranty
SportScreen publishes a lifetime frame warranty, the strongest paper in the category, and deserves credit for it. We back the Fairway series for 2 years including the motor. Several competitors publish no warranty terms at all, which tells you something.

Best warranty: SportScreen Vanish (~$2,999). If a lifetime frame warranty is the deciding factor, buy the Vanish and don't look back.
Best if you only need the screen: Par2Pro Stealth (~$1,895). Respected, and Par2Pro is a knowledgeable specialty shop. Budget separately for side protection.
Cheapest way in: METechs (~$787+). A DIY-grade motorized kit. Real trade-offs in material and support, but it exists and it's honest about what it is.
